SEATTLE (AP) — The National Weather Service says recent heavy rainfall has created a landslide risk in Western Washington.

And forecasters expect west winds Monday in much of Eastern Washington in the range of 20 mph to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph.

Coastal bluffs and Western Washington hillsides are most susceptible to landslides the next couple of days because they’ve been saturated.

A record 1.09 inches of rain fell Sunday at Sea-Tac Airport, breaking the record of .98 for March 16 set in 1950. Forecasters say this is the third-wettest March on record at Sea-Tac, with 7.22 inches recorded as of Sunday – about double the normal amount.

The Weather Service forecasts more showers through mid-week and a chance of showers the rest of the week across Washington.
