A man climbed down from a tree Friday morning after a three-hour standoff with Seattle police that blocked railroad tracks and halted trains.

The man was placed in handcuffs about 8:30 a.m.

Police said the man is suspected of breaking windows at an ex-girlfriend’s house around 5:30 a.m. and injuring a man.

The suspect climbed about 40 feet up a tree next to the tracks in Magnolia neighborhood near the Ballard railroad bridge. He reportedly was taking off his clothes and tying them to branches.

While a police negotiator tried to talk the man down, a fire department rescue team was standing by.

The activity blocked two Sounder commuter trains, and Sound Transit bused those passengers from Edmonds. It also delayed an Amtrak train to Bellingham.

An Associated Press report.
