12-year-old arrested after attacking woman with screwdriver in Seattle’s Central District

A 12-year-old boy was arrested by the Seattle Police Department (SPD) Saturday after he attacked a woman with a screwdriver in the city’s Central District neighborhood.
In addition to attacking the 43-year-old woman, the 12-year-old stole the victim’s purse. This attack happened at the Amazon Fresh store on 23rd Avenue S. and S. Jackson Street.
“Police determined that a juvenile suspect wearing a ‘hot pink ski mask’ had just robbed the woman at the Amazon Fresh store,” SPD stated in its crime blotter.
According to SPD, the attack involved the 12-year-old hitting the victim in the face multiple times before he poked her in the face with a screwdriver, striking her in her left cheek. After rifling through her purse, he returned to attack the victim once more.
“When police found the suspect, he fled from them on foot,” SPD wrote. “Based on his age, unique clothing description, and previous interactions with law enforcement, officers recognized the suspect and knew where he lived.”
After obtaining a search warrant for the suspect’s family home, officers took the suspect into custody without incident and recovered the screwdriver.
Officers booked the 12-year-old suspect into juvenile detention at the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children & Family Justice Center.
