A 17-year-old boy was wounded in a shooting early Thursday morning in Seattle’s High Point neighborhood.

According to the Seattle Police Department (SPD), “rapid gunfire” broke out near Sylvan Way S.W. and S.W. Morgan Street just before 12:45 a.m. Thursday. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the 17-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the hip area.

He was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he is in serious, but stable condition, as of this reporting.

“Before officers located the victim, they found a suspect vehicle that had crashed and became disabled near Sylvan Way S.W. and Delridge Way S.W.,” SPD Detective Brian Pritchard told KIRO Newsradio. “Multiple suspects were seen running from the vehicle through a nearby Home Depot parking lot.”

After searching the area with a K9 unit, SPD could not locate any suspects. The discovered vehicle was taken in for processing.

No other injuries have been reported from the shooting, but three vehicles and two buildings, including a classroom door at a school, were struck by gunfire.

“Officers process multiple nearby scenes and recovered evidence before clearing the area,” Pritchard added.

Detectives with the Gun Violence Reduction Unit will be leading the investigation.
