A man with 19 previous felony convictions was arrested once more after stealing a Honda Civic near Tenino and leading authorities on a chase on Friday night.

At approximately 10 p.m. Friday, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) was tipped off that an auto theft was in progress on the west side after a Honda Civic was stolen.

“A short time later, a Tenino police officer located the stolen car,” Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders wrote on social media. “The driver refused to pull over and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit traveled north toward Tumwater.”

After multiple grappler attempts, striking the car with spike strips, and conducting a successful PIT maneuver, the suspect was forcibly extracted from the stolen vehicle. A video of his arrest can be seen here.

He had had an active escape warrant for assault in addition to 19 felony convictions for crimes such as possession of stolen property, attempting to elude a police vehicle, property damage, burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, assault on law enforcement, unlawful possession of a firearm, robbery, assault via second-degree strangulation, intimidating a witness, and 10 additional misdemeanor convictions.

“Tonight, he is back on his way to jail for auto theft, attempt to elude, DUI, and driving on a suspended license,” Sanders stated. “Great teamwork by Olympia PD, TCSO, WSP, and Tenino PD to get a dangerous individual safely into custody again.”
