Two teens, ages 15 and 17, were arrested Saturday night in North Seattle for an armed carjacking after BMW provided real-time updates of the suspects’ location.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers responded to the 6200 block of N.E. Radford Drive for a reported carjacking by multiple suspects, SPD announced.

One of the teenage suspects pointed a firearm at the victim while demanding his keys and cellphone. Multiple suspects then entered the victim’s vehicle and drove away.

SPD officers reported the stolen vehicle to BMW, and the company was able to aid the search by tracking the car while relaying the suspects’ real-time location to officers.

Roughly 30 minutes later, officers tracked the stolen vehicle to a Northgate grocery store, and cops coordinated a large response to the area.

A 15-year-old girl inside the car was arrested, and the second 17-year-old male suspect fled the scene on foot. The 17-year-old is known by officers for previous robbery and assault cases.

Officers were able to locate the second suspect a short distance away and arrest him.

Two other suspects connected to the armed carjacking successfully fled the scene.

A King County Sheriff’s Office K9 team responded to assist in the search for the outstanding suspects, although they were not found and remain at large.

Officers impounded the vehicle and booked the two teens into juvenile detention at the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children & Family Justice Center for investigation of robbery.

SPD noted the investigation has been assigned to the robbery unit and remains active.
