A man was arrested in Tacoma Wednesday night in connection with an alleged arson committed against a multi-million-dollar property owned by former NFL player and Washington Huskies player Desmond Trufant.
At approximately 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Tacoma Fire Department responded to a fire at The Sunset Estate, a luxury short-term rental event space for weddings and other celebrations. The house was reported as a total loss.
Less than 24 hours after the fire, the Tacoma Fire Department determined the fire had been intentionally set, prompting the Tacoma Police Department to investigate it as arson.
The department said it has video of the suspect it is searching for, while Trufant shared with police that someone turned on the gas at the property the day before the fire. It is unknown whether that incident is connected to the fire, as of this reporting.
By 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Tacoma police officers found and arrested the man on the 600 block of S Howard Street, according to The Seattle Times.
While the damage is expected to disrupt future events planned at The Sunset Estate, the flames also threatened surrounding homes, and several neighbors feared the fire would spread throughout the neighborhood.
