A person was killed in a shootout after a standoff with SAT took place in Lacey Wednesday evening.
At approximately 5 p.m. Wednesday, both the Lacey Police Department and the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office were called to respond to a “barricaded suspect with a gun” on College Street and 45th Avenue.
Shortly later, a SWAT team surrounded the area.
“We are on scene of a barricaded suspect with a gun,” the Lacey Police Department stated. “We will update as the situation evolves.”
As law enforcement escorted people nearby away from the scene, gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and SWAT.
“While working to evacuate citizens within the complex, an officer-involved shooting occurred between SWAT and the shooter,” Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said.
After the officer-involved shooting, the barricaded suspect was pronounced dead at the scene despite personnel attempting life-saving efforts at the scene.
No officers were injured during the altercation.
The Washington State Office of Independent Investigations will be taking over the investigation.
