One person died and another three were seriously injured after a car crashed into the Grocery Outlet in the Bridle Trails Shopping Center, the Kirkland Police Department (KPD) confirmed.
Police arrived at the scene just before 2 p.m. Officers found that four people, including the driver, were seriously injured. One person died on their way to the hospital. The victim was later identified as Sheila Stanton by her church, St. John’s Episcopal Church of Kirkland, as the person who died in Sunday’s crash.
“St. John’s is reeling from the loss of our much-loved parishioner, Sheila Stanton,” the church told KIRO 7.
According to KIRO 7, a 12-year-old child has “major” injuries, while the child’s mother has “severe” injuries. Both are expected to be OK.
The driver was a 74-year-old woman. Officers reported that the elderly woman was driving a new car that she may have been unfamiliar with.
Officers believe the crash was an accident. KPD is examining blood test results to see if the driver was impaired.
KPD is investigating the cause of the crash.
