Suspects throw chainsaw at deputies from stolen car during police chase on I-5 in Pierce County

Two male suspects threw a chainsaw out of a car’s window while being pursued by police in Parkland Sunday night, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
Deputies first received a call at 11:50 p.m. Sunday from a woman who claimed her car had been stolen. A K9 deputy saw the car minutes later and attempted to pull the driver over. Two men were inside the car, and they sped off on I-5.
“Things get a little interesting from here when the passenger decides to throw out a chainsaw and other rope-type items out the passenger window in an attempt to disable or crash the police vehicles behind them,” the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office wrote on social media.
The vehicle eventually got stuck, causing both suspects to flee on foot.
The passenger in the stolen car, a 31-year-old male, was caught by a K9 with the sheriff’s office, and was taken to a local hospital for the dog bite. He is expected to be charged with possessing motor vehicle theft tools, eluding, and first-degree assault towards the deputies due to “throwing the chainsaw and ropes gear out the window to potentially disable or crash the deputies’ vehicles.”
The 28-year-old driver was quickly caught afterward, located by JBLM’s military police. He was booked for felony eluding and theft of a motor vehicle.
