Five people were arrested near the unincorporated area of Hobart for creating unsafe conditions for children, in addition to possessing drugs and committing both mail theft and ID fraud.

The Covington Police Department served a search warrant for the residence. During the search, investigators found potentially thousands of pieces of stolen mail, stolen and fake IDs, and a workstation used to create them. Additionally, methamphetamine and four firearms, including one reported stolen, were discovered.

“Several children were found living in unsafe and unsanitary conditions,” the Covington Police Department stated.

Five adults were booked into jail, facing multiple charges including child neglect, burglary, ID theft, and mail theft.

“This operation was a coordinated effort involving the Postal Inspector’s Office, King County Sheriff’s Office, our detectives, and Maple Valley PD,” the Covington Police Department wrote. “Covington detectives were heavily involved in processing the scene and investigating crimes that occurred in our community, work that helps slow down mail theft and protect residents. We’re thankful to all agencies involved for their collaboration and dedication to public safety.”
