A Christmas Day shooting at a Tacoma gas station resulted in the arrest of three teenagers.
The shooting happened at approximately 4 p.m. Thursday outside of the Country Boy Mart on E. 56th Street and McKinley Avenue. A bullet grazed a 16-year-old during the shooting.
It’s still unclear what led to the shooting, as of this reporting, as the Tacoma Police Department is investigating how the teenagers knew each other. Investigators believe shots were fired outside the gas station.
In total, three teenagers, including the 16-year-old who was shot, were arrested. Officers additionally towed a car connected to the shooting a few blocks from the scene of the shooting, with the intention to serve a search warrant on the vehicle.
“It’s just a real eerie feeling knowing that you live in this neighborhood, and things like this are happening to teenagers,” India Gauthier, someone who was near the scene of the shooting when it occurred, told KIRO 7. “On Christmas? Like … It’s a scary thought to even bring my kids outside now.”
All three teenagers were booked on first-degree assault and drive-by shooting charges. Two of the suspects were taken to the juvenile detention center Remann Hall, while the other was booked into the Pierce County Jail.
No other injuries were reported.
