Man dies in police custody in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood

An investigation is underway after a man died in police custody Saturday evening in Seattle.
According to a statement by the Independent Force Investigation Team in King County, police found a person lying on the sidewalk of Airport Way S shortly after 8 p.m.
The statement said the person was unable to speak or care for themselves, and police escorted them to a nearby patrol car.
Police then requested aid while the person sat in the front seat.
While they were waiting for aid, the individual dropped to the ground and began rolling across the road.
Police then put the person in handcuffs.
While waiting for aid, the person lost consciousness, and when first responders arrived, they were unable to revive the person.
Under state law, the investigative team will conduct a death investigation.
