Deputies with the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspected DUI driver who crashed into a tree shortly after passing through an active Port Orchard school zone.

The department is thanking one driver’s 911 call for alerting deputies to the driver. The caller reported the driver, a 25-year-old woman, was swerving on S.E. Phillips Road Tuesday morning, including through an active school zone.

An example of her erratic driving was when she stopped at a crosswalk and just sat there, even after traffic cleared. Minutes later, deputies reported she veered off the road and crashed into a tree.

“Deputies discovered multiple alcoholic beverage containers inside the vehicle,” the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office stated. “The driver refused field sobriety and breathalyzer tests.”

After her refusal, deputies received a warrant for a blood draw at St. Michael Medical Center.

“Following medical clearance, the suspect was booked into the Kitsap County Jail,” the sheriff’s office said.

She’s now facing several charges, including DUI and driving without a required ignition interlock device.
