Suspect dies after being shot by officers near Everett school

One person died in an early morning officer-involved shooting in Everett, an Arlington Police Department spokesperson told KIRO Newsradio.

Around 2 a.m., officers were sent to the area near Emerson Elementary School for reports of gunfire, a spokesperson said.

Authorities located a man who was reportedly discharging a handgun into the air. After attempts were made to negotiate and de-escalate, the man advanced toward officers, according to the spokesperson.

Multiple tasers were deployed, and when the man continued to approach law enforcement, officers with the Everett Police Department and Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office discharged their guns.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

No officers were injured, and there is no current threat to the public.

Roads and schools closed after Everett shooting

As the investigation continues, 7th Avenue Southeast remains closed between 84th Street Southeast and 90th Street Southeast. Authorities are urging residents and drivers to avoid the area.

The incident has also affected nearby schools. Emerson Elementary School and St. Mary Magdalen School are both closed for the day due to their proximity to the scene.
