Everett Police are investigating a van fire and explosion that rocked the parking lot of their South Precinct on Everett Mall Way Tuesday night.
A white van pulled into the parking lot at approximately 9:15 p.m., according to a Facebook post from Everett PD.
Officers heard an explosion shortly after and saw the van engulfed in flames.
The 35-year-old driver exited the van and was taken into custody. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of first-degree arson, the post said.
Detectives determined the blast was caused by the fire over-pressuring the van’s seals, which led them to rupture.
The motive for the incident remains unclear.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Everett Police Department tip line at (425) 257-8450 or Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound at (800) 222-TIPS.
