Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered an improvised explosive device while arresting a homeless Tacoma man Thursday night.
Law enforcement was called to Mullenix Market following reports of a man acting erratically in the parking lot. Deputies arrived at the 1900 block of SE Mullenix Road around 10:45 p.m. Thursday and found the 25-year-old man acting “strangely.”

During the confrontation, deputies discovered a potential explosive device inside the suspect’s car. The Washington State Patrol (WSP) bomb squad was called to safely contain and neutralize the device. After the vehicle was secured, deputies also found a small amount of methamphetamine.
The suspect, a homeless man from Tacoma, was transported to Saint Michael’s Medical Center for treatment of a serious medical condition.
No injuries were reported, and authorities confirmed the situation was resolved safely.
