The Everett Police Department (EPD) is asking the public for help after a failed ATM theft attempt on Tuesday caused thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to an Everett business.

Early in the morning, deputies were advised of a burglary in progress at the Walgreens in the 2600 block of Bridgeport Way W. in Everett, EPD announced.

Witnesses first called 911 around 3:30 a.m. and claimed a stolen truck was dragging an ATM westbound on 27th Street W.

Security footage shared by EPD filmed the burglars struggling several times to secure a chain around the ATM before finally pulling it out the door and escaping with it.

During the pursuit, deputies spotted a second suspect’s vehicle in a nearby neighborhood as the thieves desperately tried to recover the ATM after it had come loose from the first truck again. When deputies arrived, the suspects abandoned the ATM and fled.

While the trucks were initially involved in the crime, one of the vehicles was later found unoccupied in Tacoma.

Authorities are asking the community for help in identifying the suspects and vehicles involved. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS.
