Sixteen months after a triple-fatal crash in Everett, authorities said they have arrested the driver they believe was responsible.

On November 9, 2024, police attempted to stop a vehicle near Airport Road and East Gibson Road.

Officers said the driver sped away, ran a red light at Airport Road and Evergreen Way, left the roadway, and struck a group of pedestrians near a 7-Eleven.

Three people were killed, and two others were critically injured.

Witnesses told police that multiple people got out of the car and took off.

“Immediately following the collision, a K-9 track was initiated, and drones were utilized to attempt to locate the fleeing subjects. Multiple individuals were initially detained, some of whom were occupants of the vehicle,” Everett Police stated in a news release. “The subjects involved were not cooperative with the investigation, and the driver of the vehicle could not be immediately determined. As such, the individuals were identified and released pending further investigation.”

Suspect linked to Everett crash found in Los Angeles

Investigators said the driver — who was a juvenile at the time — fled to California after the crash. On Monday, the U.S. Marshal’s Office located him in Los Angeles and took him into custody.

As of Tuesday, the 18-year-old was being held in California pending arrangements to bring him back to Washington. He will be booked into the Snohomish County Jail on three counts of second-degree murder, two counts of vehicular assault, and one count of hit-and-run.

“Our hearts remain with the victims and their families as they continue to face the impacts and unimaginable loss caused by this tragedy,” Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin said. “While an arrest cannot undo that harm, I want to thank the Everett Police Department and the partner agencies whose tireless efforts helped bring the suspect into custody and move this case toward justice.”

Police also said another person in the vehicle discarded a fully automatic handgun while running from the scene. That individual was arrested and faces weapons-related charges.
