Gas thieves sparked a fire at Grace Academy in Marysville last Thursday, destroying one school bus and damaging the rear of a second bus.

The fire was reported Thursday around 11 p.m., the Marysville Police Department confirmed to KIRO Newsradio.

“We are immensely grateful to the Marysville Fire Department for their response in extinguishing the fire and protecting our neighbors,” the school said in a social media post.

The fire also consumed a nearby hedge, according to the school.

“We’ve had some problems in the past with people coming onto campus and drilling holes into fuel tanks,” Tim Pearce, co-head of school at Grace Academy, told The Daily Herald. “This particular one went very wrong.”

No one has been arrested, and no suspects have been identified, police reported.

Grace Academy is now collecting donations to replace both buses. The destroyed bus alone was valued at around $20,000. If you would like to help, click here.
