A fatal head-on collision occurred in Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood Monday evening.

According to the Seattle Police Department (SPD), the crash happened at approximately 6:15 p.m. in the 2800 block of Thorndyke Avenue W., killing one of the drivers involved.

“Upon arrival, officers located a 70-year-old male driver with critical injuries and a 25-year-old female driver with minor injuries,” SPD stated in its crime blotter. “Seattle Fire Department medics provided aid to both individuals. Despite lifesaving efforts, the male was pronounced deceased at the scene. Medics treated and released the female at the scene.”

The 70-year-old male driver was traveling south in a red Toyota when he crossed the centerline of the road and collided head-on with a gray Jeep driven by the 25-year-old female, according to SPD. The department also confirmed that there was no sign of impairment after evaluating the female driver.

The road was closed for several hours as officers investigated the scene.
