A 57-year-old woman in Issaquah was arrested Wednesday for the theft of roughly $630,000 from her employer, the City of Issaquah announced.

Detectives determined the thefts date back to February 2018, estimating that the woman stole approximately $10,000 each month from the company through forged checks.

Issaquah woman forges company checks

In June, a local business reported concerns that an employee had been stealing funds with forged signatures on company checks, causing the Issaquah Police Department (IPD) to look into the matter.

IPD detectives developed probable cause to arrest the woman for first-degree forgery and theft, both of which are felonies.

When IPD located the suspect for arrest, detectives observed a rental moving trailer attached to her vehicle. The woman was eventually taken into custody without incident, and the suspect admitted to the theft during an interview with IPD detectives.

In addition to admitting to the theft, the woman stated she was unable to estimate how much money she had stolen from the company since 2018.

The suspect was later booked into King County Jail.

IPD commended the business for its cooperation throughout the process and encouraged all businesses to report suspected financial misconduct.
