An army soldier has been sentenced to two years in prison for his connection to the 2024 sexual assault of an unconscious woman in a Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) barracks building.
20-year-old Private First Class Kallon Curiel was found guilty of indecent recording, but was acquitted of four counts of sexual assault, four specifications of abusive sexual contact, and four specifications of principal to sexual assault, according to The Seattle Times.
Curiel is the fourth soldier charged with sexually assaulting a female ROTC student on October 27, 2024 at JBLM. Two other soldiers, Pvt. Deron J. Gordon, 21, and Spc. Jadon Bosarge, 25, were previously given sentences of 57 months and 75 months. A fourth soldier who was charged was acquitted back in May.
According to an investigation by the Army, the ROTC student was sexually assaulted, including when unconscious, after drinking and partying with the four soldiers. Multiple soldiers recorded parts of the sexual assault and posted the videos on social media.
Curiel will serve his prison sentence at the Northwestern Joint Regional Correctional Facility at JBLM. Additionally, he received a bad conduct discharge from the Army, a reduction in rank, and forfeiture of pay and allowances.
