Kent police launch homicide investigation after woman discovered dead in park

The Kent Police Department is investigating a homicide after a woman was found dead in a Kent park Wednesday.

Kent patrol officers were called to investigate a possible overdose at Kaibara Park. When they arrived at approximately 3:50 a.m. Wednesday, they found two people, a 48-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man, dead at the park. Both victims were from Renton. Puget Sound Fire was dispatched alongside the Kent Police Department.

“The male had an injury to his head and was breathing but unable to talk. The female was next to the male and had a significant injury to her head,” the Kent Police Department stated. “She was non-responsive, and despite lifesaving medical aid by Puget Sound Fire, she was declared deceased at the scene. The male was later transported to a local hospital for medical treatment; his current medical condition is not known.”

The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment, while the woman was declared dead at the scene. The male victim’s current condition is not known, as of this reporting.

The victims were first discovered by a person walking through Kaibara Park. As he was walking, he noticed two people unconscious on the ground.

“When he checked on them, they did not respond, so he went to a nearby business to have someone call 911,” the Kent Police Department said. “The witness then returned to the park to assist officers in finding the subjects.”

The cause of death has not been determined, according to the Kent Police Department, but the case is being investigated as a potential homicide.
