The Kent Police Department (KPD) arrested a man after he attempted to kidnap his girlfriend last week.

KPD officers initially responded to 911 calls reporting a man, 30, and a woman, 22, arguing at a business. Witnesses claimed he dragged the woman outside of the business and forced her into a car. People tried to intervene and stop him, but couldn’t. Multiple people were able to record his license plate number and passed it along to KPD.

“Ten minutes later, another witness called 911 to say that she was parked near the 10800 block of SE 240th and just saw a woman run from a parked vehicle,” KPD stated on social media. “She watched as the driver bailed from the vehicle, chased her down, and drug her back inside the car.”

That vehicle’s license plate matched the one from the kidnapping 10 minutes earlier. Officers soon spotted and stopped the car with a high-risk stop. When they found the woman, she had some bruising on her body.

“She had bruising and injuries consistent with a struggle, but otherwise, will be OK,” KPD continued in its statement. “The man was her boyfriend of a year. They moved here from out of state, and she had no one to help her. So, witnesses in our community stepped up to help her.”

The man was booked for investigation of kidnapping and assault.
