Woman, child escape Longview home before SWAT arrests man accused of threatening her with gun

A 47-year-old man was arrested after a SWAT response to his Longview home, where he was allegedly threatening his girlfriend with a firearm and assaulting her.

At approximately 8:25 a.m. Tuesday, Longview Police Department (LPD) officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of 21st Avenue after reports of a domestic violence assault involving a firearm, LPD announced.

The victim stated that her boyfriend assaulted her during an argument and that she was threatened with a firearm, which caused her to fear that he was going to shoot her.

The victim was ultimately able to escape the residence with her child and contact law enforcement.

Officers surround Longview home, spent two hours trying to make contact before the suspect surrendered

Officers surrounded the residence and worked to communicate with the suspect by phone, text message, and through loudspeaker announcements. The suspect failed to respond or exit the home.

LPD detectives obtained a search warrant for the suspect and the firearm based on the circumstances.

Lower Columbia SWAT also responded to assist alongside negotiators with the Lower Columbia Crisis Negotiations Team.

After roughly two hours of attempts to make contact with the suspect, he answered a phone call from negotiators and exited the residence. SWAT placed the suspect in custody without further incident.

LPD noted that while searching the residence, a handgun was located in the bathroom. The firearm was seized as evidence.

The suspect was ultimately transported to the Cowlitz County Jail and booked for felony harassment – domestic violence, and fourth-degree assault – domestic violence
