Inmate on the run after escaping from Monroe Correctional Complex

May 15, 2026, 8:07 AM | Updated: 1:06 pm

An inmate escaped from the Monroe Correctional Complex on Friday, and law enforcement is actively searching for the escapee.

At approximately 10:53 p.m., Samuel Evans Kimble escaped from the Minimum Security Unit at the Monroe Correctional Complex, the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) announced.

In a joint effort across the DOC and Monroe Police Department, both departments believe Kimble is no longer in the Monroe area.

Kimble is currently serving a 27-month sentence for a conviction of a domestic violence court order violation for assault out of Snohomish County. Kimble has an earned release date of January 5, 2027.

Headcount reveals Monroe escape, facility placed on restricted movement

Jail staff determined that Kimble was no longer inside the facility after a headcount was taken at 3:30 a.m. In response, a restricted movement protocol was implemented in order to thoroughly search the facility.

Security footage was reviewed to help determine the time of escape. Local law enforcement and nearby schools have been notified of Kimble’s escape.

Kimble was last seen wearing state-issued grey sweatpants, a khaki jacket, and a black do-rag.

DOC noted local law enforcement is actively searching the area, and if Kimble is seen, do not approach him.

People are urged to call 911 with information or contact the DOC headquarters at (360) 794-2720.

“Right now, local law enforcement and DOC are focused on apprehending Kimble,” the DOC stated. “Once he has been apprehended, DOC will conduct a review of the escape.”
