Three children and a teacher were killed in a shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, authorities told The Associated Press.
A 16-year-old shooter opened fire in the school, killing four and wounding a child and a teacher before he was killed by a community member, according to The Associated Press.
The community member reportedly followed the shooter into the school. The children killed were 5, 8, and 11 years old.
A call came in around 1 p.m. from a person in a car outside the school who reported being shot at by someone with a long gun, according to The Associated Press. More 911 calls then came from inside the school.
Bend Police Department (BPD) officers arrived at Silver Rail Elementary School shortly after 1 p.m., BPD communications manager Sheila Miller stated. The shooter was killed inside the school, soon after police arrived.

Families directed to Journey Church for reunification
The family reunification site was Journey Church at 61303 S. Highway 97, near Goodwill and Dairy Queen.
Miller stated that Silver Rail Elementary School has roughly 450 children enrolled, with more than 40 staff members.
“As you can imagine, the process of getting all of those people safely out of the building and down to Journey Church is a real challenge,” the spokesperson said. “But we’re working on it. We ask people to be patient. We have to be really thorough and make sure each area of the building is cleared.”
Police advised people to avoid the area around the school.
