A 20-year-old man was shot several times in his chest early Tuesday morning in an apparent drive-by shooting in Pierce County, and the suspect remains at large.

Pierce County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) deputies reported the shooting occurred at approximately 3 a.m., along 10th Avenue E. in unincorporated Tacoma, according to KIRO 7.

Deputies said the man was transported to the nearest hospital, and the incident “appears to be a drive-by related shooting.”

Several shell casings found after Pierce County drive-by shooting

PCSO deputies revealed that the victim was shot multiple times in his chest, and approximately 20 to 30 shell casings were recovered at the scene.

“The deputies were able to get here and apply those tourniquets and chest seals and use equipment necessary to save his life,” PCSO Deputy Carly Cappetto told KIRO 7.

There is currently no suspect in custody, and the investigation remains ongoing.

“It’s challenging … we don’t really have anybody that wants to talk with us, so we are starting this investigation from scratch right now,” Deputy Cappetto said.

PCSO believes that the shooting was an isolated incident between either a group or groups of people. It remains unclear how many people and/or shooters may be involved. Officials confirmed that the shooting was mainly contained to one home and the outside driveway.

Deputy Cappetto revealed that the shots may have come from “an extended magazine or drum magazine or something around that line.”

PCSO urged anyone with information on the incident to contact the Crime Stoppers of Tacoma and Pierce Counties at (800) 222-TIPS or by visiting tpcrimestoppers.com
