A 24-year-old man was arrested last week after allegedly firing gunshots toward a group of people in the Puyallup/South Hill area while fighting with his girlfriend.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office described the incident, which took place at approximately 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, as “a large domestic violence altercation” that was occurring in the middle of the street.

“Several residents reported shots were fired and people were screaming and running,” the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office stated. “Surveillance captures the suspect firing shots towards a group of people. When deputies arrived, they learned the suspect who fired shots had fled on foot.”

A K9 unit was called to the scene to assist in searching for the suspect, who reportedly jumped a fence and hid in tall grass near a retention pond.

“It did not take long for deputies to locate the suspect, who was bunkered down in tall grass with no shirt on,” the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office wrote.

A second K9 unit located the gun the suspect used, discarded in some bushes near a neighborhood park.

The man was arrested and booked into the Pierce County Jail for five counts of first-degree assault, first-degree kidnapping after he allegedly did not allow his girlfriend to leave, and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

“Great job to all the deputies and K9s involved in this incident,” the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office added.
