pierce county three-car crash...

A three-car crash injured multiple people, including a Pierce County deputy, in Tacoma Saturday evening after a driver attempted to evade police multiple times.

Just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday, a deputy attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the Alta Apartments off Steele Street S. in Tacoma.

The suspect driver took off “at a high rate of speed,” prompting the deputies to deploy a tracking device onto the vehicle.

Deputies caught up to the suspect, who was trying to remove the tracking device at 84th Street and Yakima Avenue, but the suspect sped off a second time.

The suspect eventually crashed into another vehicle at 110th Street S. and Pacific Avenue S. Three cars were involved in the wreck, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP). One of the cars involved in the crash caught on fire.

“Four occupants in the victim vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two of the passengers in the victim’s vehicle were children,” the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office stated. “One deputy sustained a non-life-threatening injury and also had to be transported to a local hospital.”

The 22-year-old suspect who caused the crash fled the scene on foot, but was quickly taken into custody by Pierce County deputies.

“A gun could be seen inside the suspect vehicle in plain view,” the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office wrote. “The vehicle will be taken for a search warrant, and the suspect will also be processed for DUI.”

The suspect was booked into Pierce County Jail for DUI, four counts of vehicular assault, felony hit-and-run, two counts of eluding, and resisting arrest.
