Two Portland police officers were shot Monday night in the Sullivan’s Gulch neighborhood, prompting a citywide search, but the suspect remains at large.

At 8:21 p.m., officers responded to the area of N.E. 21st Avenue and N.E. Clackamas Street for reports of a threat with a weapon call, the City of Portland announced.

As officers arrived, the suspect fired shots at them and struck two of them. Both officers were transported to the hospital, treated, and are in stable condition.

The suspect fled the scene, and law enforcement set up a perimeter around the area in an effort to contain the suspect.

The City of Portland described the suspect as a caucasian male in his mid-30s, with facial hair, and wearing a black baseball cap, a black jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and black shoes. The suspect was also seen with a black backpack and a green shopping bag.

Officials noted that if anyone has information on the identity of the suspect or his location, they are urged to call 911, as the suspect is considered armed and dangerous. Additionally, people can contact detectives directly at homicidetips@police.portlandoregon.gov or call (503) 823-0479.

On Tuesday morning, officials announced that the initial search of the immediate shooting area had concluded; however, the investigation remains active as detectives continue to gather information and follow leads.

The City of Portland noted that additional details will be released when they become available.

In total, several law enforcement agencies responded to assist in the search, including the Special Emergency Reaction Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, Air Support Unit, Portland Police Bureau Unmanned Aircraft Systems Unit, and K9 Unit.
