Deputy shot during Rainier domestic violence call, 7-hour standoff ends with arrest

A seven-hour standoff in Rainier has ended with one person in custody after a deputy was shot Tuesday night.
Deputies with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence call shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday and discovered a deceased person inside a home. As deputies tried to enter, shots were fired through the door, striking one deputy.
“Deputies attempted to force entry under exigency when shots were fired at them through the door,” Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders wrote. “One deputy was injured as a result. A second deputy returned fire before both deputies retreated.”
The deputy was transported to a nearby hospital, but is in stable condition. Seven hours later, into the early hours of Wednesday morning, SWAT teams eventually took the suspect into custody.
“Suspect will be treated for non-life-threatening injury,” Sanders added. “No other LEOs [law enforcement officers] hurt.”
