A 35-year-old man was booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Rape and Kidnapping after he allegedly assaulted a teenage girl in Seattle’s Northgate neighborhood Monday morning, Seattle Police said.

Suspect allegedly dragged teen into woods near NE 103rd Street

Police received reports around 9:00 a.m. of a man trying to drag a girl into the woods near Northeast 103rd Street and 5th Avenue Northeast. When officers arrived, they found the victim, who had suffered minor injuries. The suspect had fled the scene before police got there.

The man lured the teen from a bus stop into a nearby wooded area where he assaulted her, police said.

Victim treated at Seattle Children’s Hospital

The girl was treated on scene, then taken to Seattle Children’s Hospital to be evaluated. Detectives in the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit (SAU) were assigned to the case.

Suspect found less than two hours later; wanted on multiple warrants

Less than two hours after the original call, police found the suspect near Aurora Avenue North and North 115th Street. He was wanted on multiple warrants out of Snohomish County and Puyallup Municipal Court, police said.

Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes calls incident ‘unacceptable’

“Today’s incident is unacceptable. Our children should be able to travel safely and enjoy their youth without fear. As a community, we need to fully support our victims now and in the future. We need to prosecute those responsible for stealing our most vulnerable people’s sense of safety, and work together to stop this from happening again,” said Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes. “To victims of sexual assault, this City is here to support you. Please know that there are resources available at Seek Then Speak or the King County Sexual Assault Resource Center.”
