A teen boy crashed into a Redmond apartment building on Tuesday after he attempted a high-speed drift.

At approximately 2 p.m., Redmond Police Department (RPD) officers responded to reports of a vehicle that crashed into an apartment building in the 17100 block of N.E. 80th Street, RPD announced.

Witnesses reported that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, driving recklessly, and ran a stop sign before it crashed.

Investigators learned that the teen driver attempted to drift around a corner, but saw a pedestrian in the crosswalk. The driver then lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle left the roadway, crashed through a fence, went down a 50-foot embankment, and ultimately crashed into the apartment building.

RPD noted that three occupants were inside the vehicle, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.

“We’re grateful this incident did not result in injuries, as it could have ended much worse,” RPD stated. “This is a good reminder that reckless driving puts lives at risk. Please slow down and drive responsibly.”

The teen driver was later arrested for reckless driving.
