A 26-year-old homicide suspect was arrested Thursday night after being on the run for more than six years.

At approximately 9 p.m., a joint effort across several Renton Police Department (RPD) teams arrested Oshea Williams near Benson Drive and S.E. 172nd Street, RPD announced.

Investigators developed information that Williams was in the vicinity and eventually positively identified him.

RPD attempted to make an arrest, but Williams fled the scene on foot. Williams was ultimately taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.

“Six years is a long time, but our investigators never gave up on this case or finding justice for Jimm Route’s family,” Commander Susan Lewis said. “This arrest is a testament to the persistence and dedication of our teams. We will keep working until justice is served.”

Fatal Renton shooting leads to a 6-year search

King County prosecutors charged Williams with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of 21-year-old Jimm Route on March 10, 2020, at 100 Rainier Avenue S.

Surveillance video captured Williams allegedly shooting Route in a parking lot. Williams then fled the scene and has evaded arrest ever since.

Williams’ accomplice, J’Von Kelly, previously pleaded guilty to felony rendering criminal assistance for his role in driving Williams to the shooting location.

“Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of Jimm Route,” RPD stated.
