A decades-old Renton murder case involving a mother and son was solved 31 years to the day on Tuesday, bringing the killer to justice and closure to the surviving family.

On Oct. 28, 1994, Stacy Ann Falcon, 23, and her 3-year-old son Jacob were found dead on a dead-end road in south Renton, the Renton Police Department (RPD) announced.

A King County jury convicted 55-year-old Jerome Frank Jones of the 1994 murder on Tuesday.

DNA helps to solve 31-year-old Renton murder case

DNA technology advancements assisted investigators in connecting Jones to the murder, who was already serving time in California for an unrelated murder.

“After over 30 years, justice has finally been served for Stacy, Jacob, and their family,” Chief Jon Schuldt said. “Over the years, 50 different detectives have worked tirelessly to reach this moment. We hope the Falcon and Dewey families find some comfort in knowing we never gave up.”

RPD noted Jones will be sentenced on Dec. 12 for two counts of aggravated first-degree murder with deadly weapon enhancements.
