A 22-year-old Renton man was arrested last week after a fatal road rage collision in Issaquah that police suspect was an intentional act.

At approximately 8:49 p.m., Issaquah Police Department (IPD) officers responded to a collision involving a motorcycle in the 800 block of Lake Drive, IPD announced.

IPD officers and Eastside Fire & Rescue personnel arrived and located the driver. Despite lifesaving efforts, the 20-year-old victim died at the scene.

Investigators say the suspect allegedly stalked the victim before the crash

Officers investigated the cause of the collision and reviewed surveillance video that revealed a second vehicle was involved. The footage showed the suspect vehicle colliding with the motorcycle, causing the rider to lose control and suffer fatal injuries.

The driver fled the scene without stopping. Roughly one hour later, the suspect returned to the scene with a family member and agreed to speak with investigators. While interviewing with investigators, the suspect made statements acknowledging that he struck the victim’s motorcycle while acting out of anger.

Detectives later determined that the suspect and victim were co-workers. IPD noted that there is evidence indicating that the suspect surveilled and followed the victim before intentionally driving into the motorcycle.

Detectives have recommended charges to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for murder in the second degree.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the victim as they process this tragic loss of life,” IPD Chief Steve Mylett said.
