A 37-year-old man died early Tuesday morning after being struck by a minivan while riding an electric scooter.

At approximately 12:44 a.m., 911 received reports from a bus driver who found an injured man in the middle of the intersection near 24th Avenue N.W. and N.W. 85th Street, the Seattle Police Department (SPD) announced.

Seattle Fire Department medics arrived and attempted life-saving efforts, but the 37-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

An SPD investigation determined that the victim was riding an electric scooter when he was struck by the driver of a minivan traveling westbound on N.W. 85th Street.

The 16-year-old driver returned to the scene and was cooperative with investigators. A drug recognition expert evaluated the driver and didn’t identify any signs of impairment.

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives are currently investigating the circumstances leading up to the collision.
