A pop-up art market in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood on Sunday ended in violence after a man, reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis, left a local business owner bleeding from her eyes, according to KOMO News.

The attack occurred at the corner of West Roy Street and Queen Anne Avenue North, where vendors had gathered for a Father’s Day market organized outside the Uncommon Cottage, a local gift shop owned by Jennafah Singer.

Singer told KOMO News the man began targeting passing cars before turning to the market vendors, and said the man called her a “crazy b****” before yelling, “I’m gonna gouge out your eyes.”

As Singer ran back into her shop, the man allegedly grabbed her and forced his fingers into her eye sockets. The attack left her with a concussion, severe bruising, and bleeding from both eyes.

Seattle police said it took seven officers, the use of a taser, and a sedative to subdue the suspect. Officers said he resisted arrest, kicked one officer in the face, grabbed another inappropriately, and scratched a third during the struggle.

The suspect was later booked into King County Jail on several charges, including multiple counts of assault and malicious mischief.

Approximately $5,000 worth of goods, belonging to Uncommon Cottage and participating vendors, were either destroyed or damaged. Singer’s store remains closed as she recovers from her injuries and the trauma of the incident.
