A 40-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly injured two men in a hate crime attack late Tuesday night in downtown Seattle.

At approximately 9:06 p.m., the Seattle Police Department (SPD) received reports of an assault near 8th Avenue and Stewart Street, SPD announced.

Both victims pinned the suspect down until Seattle police arrived

At the scene were two victims, a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old man, who were walking when the suspect threw a bottle filled with an unknown liquid at them.

When both victims turned around, the man called them homophobic and racial slurs before he physically assaulted the two of them.

The victims were able to successfully call 911 while pinning the suspect to the ground until SPD officers arrived.

After officers spoke with the victims, a witness, and canvassed for video footage, the suspect was arrested for a hate crime.

Officers ultimately booked the suspect into the King County Jail. The case has been assigned to the SPD Bias Crimes Coordinator for further investigation.

Anyone with information, photos, or video of the incident is asked to contact the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000 or email SPD_hatecrimes@seattle.gov.
