A Seattle Police Department (SPD) officer is recovering after he was struck by a motorist.
SPD responded to a welfare check, about 1:40 p.m., near 15th Avenue West and West Newton Street. Callers reported an unresponsive man, slumped in a car with the engine running.
“When the officers arrived to try to contact this individual, he took off,” SPD Detective Eric Munoz said. “The vehicle was traveling southbound and dragged an officer.”
Fortunately, the officer was not injured. Police are still searching for the suspect, and they said that during his escape, there were reports of vehicles being damaged as he got away.
If you live in that area and your vehicle was damaged, call SPD or 911.
