67-year-old man found dead in Westlake Park after early morning fight in downtown Seattle

A 67-year-old man was found dead in Westlake Park early Thursday morning after a fight with another man.
At approximately 6:45 a.m., a witness near the park called 911 and reported that two men were fighting and one of them was screaming for help, the Seattle Police Department (SPD) announced.
As officers were driving to the scene, the witness noticed that the 67-year-old man was no longer moving.
Officers arrived at the park and found the man with no pulse. They began administering lifesaving measures until the Seattle Fire Department medics arrived and declared the man dead.
SPD located the other man, a 39-year-old, and he was taken into custody.
Real Time Crime Center cameras nearby captured the incident, which SPD believes is “crucial” for aiding detectives in their investigation.
Homicide Unit detectives, along with CSI detectives, responded to the scene to investigate the events preceding the man’s death.

“The Seattle Police Department understands the concerns of the community and the recent violence that the city has experienced,” SPD stated. “The West Precinct area, including downtown and Belltown, will see a high-visibility presence of uniformed Seattle Police officers conducting car and bike patrols.”
