A suspect was killed by a Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputy, and another person is in custody following a high-speed chase in Yelm, according to KIRO 7.
A TCSO deputy tried to stop a vehicle going 55 mph over the speed limit on Yelm Highway Southeast, according to KIRO 7, citing the sheriff’s office.
A high-speed chase ensued before the suspect crashed. The suspect then ran off, and law enforcement heard shots being fired in a nearby backyard.
The sheriff’s office told KIRO 7 that deputies chased the suspect, who was ultimately shot and killed by law enforcement.
A passenger in the vehicle also ran off, but was eventually taken into custody, KIRO 7 reported.
It is unclear what led up to the shooting.
Authorities said to expect road closures in the area and to use alternate routes.
