27-year-old seriously injured by shotgun blast near Seattle hookah lounge

An early Saturday morning shooting in the Chinatown-International District near a hookah lounge left a 27-year-old man seriously injured.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., the Seattle Police Department (SPD) received reports of shots fired near 12th Avenue S. and S. Main Street, SPD announced.

Reports indicated there was a large disturbance outside a nearby hookah lounge.

Business owner fires shots to break up disturbance in Chinatown

Officers arrived and spoke to a 34-year-old business owner who reported firing shots from his handgun to break up the disturbance.

SPD transported the business owner to the Seattle Police Headquarters, where he was interviewed by detectives with the Gun Violence Reduction Unit (GVRU). The business owner was later released.

After officers arrived on the scene, they learned that the victim had walked into Swedish Hospital with a shotgun wound.

The victim was then transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

Officers later determined that an unidentified suspect armed with a shotgun had shot the victim in a parking lot across the street from the hookah lounge.

SPD detectives have not determined how the shooting is connected to the disturbance, and no suspect is in custody.

GVRU continues to investigate the circumstances that led up to the shooting.
