26-year-old held on $1M bail, teen detained, third suspect hospitalized after shots fired at Seattle police

Three suspects are in custody after shots were fired at Seattle police Wednesday night.

A 26-year-old is being held on $1 million bail, a 17-year-old is being held in secure detention, and a 20-year-old is at Harborview Medical Center, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office (KCPAO).

Bail set at $1M for 26-year-old accused of shooting at Seattle officers

The 26-year-old had his first appearance hearing Thursday, where prosecutors asked that he be held on $2 million bail. After hearing from both sides, the court found probable cause for his arrest on investigation of attempted murder in the first degree, unlawful possession of a firearm in the first degree, and drive-by shooting, and set his bail at $1 million.

He is a convicted felon who is not allowed to possess a gun, with his two most recent felony convictions for robbery in the first degree.

The next update in his case is expected Monday.

17-year-old accused of 2 robberies, held in secure detention

The 17-year-old also had his first appearance hearing Thursday. The court found probable cause to arrest him on two counts of robbery in the first degree and one count of attempted robbery in the first degree.

Police alleged the two robberies and attempted robbery happened on June 29. According to police, the robberies occurred at MC Foods on Beacon Hill and the 7-Eleven on the top of Queen Anne. The attempted robbery was reportedly at the Kerry Park viewpoint on the top of Queen Anne.

Prosecutors anticipate a charging decision on Monday.

20-year-old remains at Harborview

Police have not yet shared updates on the 20-year-old at Harborview Medical Center.

KCPAO noted that a first appearance typically happens after someone is discharged from the hospital.

Seattle officers see suspicious Dodge Challenger

Officers were in the area of S. Othell St. and Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. on Wednesday when they saw a suspicious Dodge Challenger with no license plates, according to court documents.

Police in two unmarked vehicles, wearing plain clothes, followed the Dodge Challenger as it entered the Holly Park neighborhood. The Challenger pulled over, and as officers drove past, they saw a man wearing a black balaclava in the driver’s seat and a man wearing all black in the front passenger seat.

Both officers, in separate vehicles, continued to follow the Challenger as it went southbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Way S.

Suspects fire at officers’ unmarked vehicle

The Challenger turned onto S. Kenyon St., and as one of the officers turned the corner, he saw the Challenger had stopped in the road facing westbound, with the car doors open and people outside the car.

The two people standing outside the car began firing at the officers’ unmarked vehicle, according to court documents.

The second officer reportedly saw one of the suspects standing on the sidewalk holding a black gun with what appeared to be an extended magazine and shooting at the other officer’s vehicle.

The officer accelerated westbound to put distance between his vehicle and the gunmen, but the suspects continued to shoot at his vehicle as it drove away.

The gunmen struck the first officer’s vehicle several times before they fled, with bullets spanning the front driver’s side panel to the back of the vehicle, according to court documents.

The officer was fortunately uninjured.

Challenger crashes into another driver

A marked police vehicle tried to pull over the Challenger, but it did not stop and sped away, according to court documents.

As the Challenger fled police, it crashed into a Toyota Highlander in the oncoming lane.

“Both vehicles were severely damaged and appeared to be disabled due to the crash,” court documents stated.

Officers apprehend suspects

There were three people in the Challenger. The driver reportedly ran away up the hillside but was apprehended by officers. However, he did not match the description of either suspect seen shooting.

The front passenger got out of the Challenger and reportedly tried to carjack a nearby Prius, but was taken into custody. He matched the description of one of the gunmen.

The third occupant was removed from the back seat of the Challenger and matched the description of the other gunmen.

Officers found out the Challenger was stolen out of Kent. Two guns were recovered in the vehicle: a handgun and a rifle.
