A GPS-equipped dart helped Snohomish County authorities track a stolen vehicle and catch the driver last week.

That driver fled from Marysville police, prompting officers to deploy a StarChase GPS dart to track it. These darts use a combination of magnets and adhesive to stick to vehicles, allowing police to monitor their location in real time.

The driver eventually crashed and ran away, according to a post on the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

A witness flagged down a deputy and pointed out the suspect, who continued to refuse commands.

The deputy then released a police dog, K9 Greg, from the patrol car. At that point, the suspect surrendered without being bitten and was booked for possession of a stolen vehicle and eluding.
