A 37-year-old man was killed after being shot in the head in South Seattle near Jose Rizal Park Monday.

At approximately 4:40 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting near Golf Drive S. and S. Charles Street, the Seattle Police Department (SPD) reported.

As SPD officers arrived on the scene, they found the man with a gunshot wound to his head.

The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) arrived and cared for the man, but despite life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.

“An adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, despite all lifesaving efforts, SFD pronounced him deceased at the scene,” SPD Detective Eric Munoz said.

Officers cordoned off the crime scene until detectives with the Homicide Unit arrived to process evidence from the scene.

SPD investigating South Seattle shooting

An SPD investigation into the circumstances leading up to the shooting is underway.

No information regarding a potential suspect has been released at this time.

Anyone with information is urged to call the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000.

“If they heard any gunshots, if they heard any suspicious activity, call either 911 or the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line,” Munoz said.
