An employee of a pre-apprenticeship program based at South Seattle College’s Georgetown Campus was attacked in one of the campus buildings.

A man cut the woman on the head with a butter knife, according to a South Seattle College spokesperson, citing program staff.

The college was notified that program staff stopped the assault and called 911.

Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers and paramedics responded to the scene. Officers found a 46-year-old woman who had been injured, according to SPD.

Officers later found a 19-year-old man considered a suspect in the attack outside, SPD stated.

He did not cooperate with officers, who eventually arrested him and booked him into King County Jail for assault.

“South Seattle College is incredibly thankful for emergency services’ rapid response to apprehend the suspect and provide medical care for the victim,” the college spokesperson wrote in an email.

The employee was transported to the hospital for treatment and was later released, according to the spokesperson.

The campus was closed for the remainder of the day.

The Homicide and Assault Unit is leading the investigation into the attack.
