A person was arrested Monday after trespassing and stealing wood from a lumber company in an area south of Cosmopolis, the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
Weyerhaeuser Lumber reported the theft to the sheriff’s office as it was happening.
Deputies responded to the scene, located the suspect, and took them into custody.
“Although this incident involved scrap wood, we want to remind the community that our local timber companies have seen an increase in illegal activity, including trespassing, dumping, and theft,” the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office wrote in a post for social media. “These crimes impact not only the companies, but also our local economy and the safety of those working in the woods.”
The suspect was arrested and booked for second-degree criminal trespass and third-degree theft.
